Sherry J. Purvis
As a resident of Kennesaw since 1997, her vision as an artist was broadened by her experiences growing up in an often-moving Air Force family. She attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS, where she received a BFA in 1980. She went on to work in advertising before putting her creative endeavors on hold to focus on family. Since that time she has expanded into teaching acrylics and pastels in her studio and teaching pastels at a local Senior Center. She can be found most days in her studio creating her own work.
Artist Statement
Painting, for me, is about color, composition, value, and the sculptural aspect of creating a 3-dimensional look to a flat surface. I want the viewer to see and feel as if they have the ability to move around inside, and to connect through their own experiences and memories.
